DTL - IT'S A CLOSE THING |
|
NORTHANTS AND E/M OSK CHAMPS |
|
Northampton Shooting Ground
held the Beds, Cambs and Northants County DTL championships today
and again it was close at the top. Outside the county, Beds shooter
Kevin Parsons put in a 99/291 for the best shoot of the day, but in
Northants, Steve Smith snuck in with 98/290 over Roy Tyler's 99/289,
both great scores! In the Northants Ladies, Issy Thorogood (Go Issy!)
beat the two rivals of Mo Sentance and Rose Palmer. Tony Clayton
rounded off the medals, with a score he was not happy with of 95.
Unfortunately, no juniors this year, but they are probably
concentrating on the other disciplines. |
|
Last year at the Olympic Skeet
championships, the running of the event was challenged by a number
of shooters. This year Bob Meadows, our own ISSF Judge and British
Shooting OSK, OT and DT
Referee
took charge. Even with a major breakdown, that Pete and Roy handled
very professionally, the shooters were very happy with the
officiating. In the end, nobody could touch Nicky Brocklesby, on a
mission to make her mark. In the end, 91 (the equivalent to an
Olympic MQS) won her the championship, with Andrew Lea making a
stunning charge with 88 to take runner up. |

BRONZE AT ENGLISH ABT CHAMPS |
|
GOLD AT EAST MIDS SKEET DOUBLES |
|
Sue Bate has just reported
back from the English ABT Championships, being held on the 4th July
2010 at windy Southern Counties in Dorset. In a field of 91
competitors, Sue tied for Runner-up Lady and after a shootout,
secured the Bronze medal in the Ladies English ABT Championship. Our
congratulations are sent to Sue and good luck for the rest of the
year's shoots. |
|
Ladies seem to be the winners
recently, in national and now Regional championships.
Again on the 4th July, in the East Midlands Skeet Doubles
Championships, Northants Committee Member Bex Lee, won the Ladies
Championship in some nasty wind effected clays. Bex has won other
East Midlands Regional medals before, but a gold was elusive. Well
done Bex! |

NORTHANTS ESP CHAMPS |
|
EAST MIDLANDS I/C ESP |
|
Sunday, 4th July 2010 saw the Northants
shooters arrive at Northampton Shooting Ground to fight for the 2010
English Sporting Championships. The sun was shining, the wind was
blowing and Roy and Pete had set a tough course for the day. Early
on, Mark Massey set a blistering 95 to set the pace and even he
thought it would be beat. As the day progressed and the scores came
in, Mark went off to win another shoot, before returning for the
end.
Whilst he was away, Mo Sentance put in a
winning score of 70 for the Ladies title and Ashley Sharman secured
the Juniors and Mick Tee, secured the Veteran title with a super
86. Mark Massey's wait was rewarded with the Northants County Senior
Championship. |
|
Initial Selection has been made for the
Northamptonshire county teams for the East Midlands Inter-Counties
championships being held at Sporting Targets on Sunday August 15th.
Seniors:
Mark Massey, Neil Faulkner, Dave Thomas, Steve
Smith, James Lacey, Les Sperling & Mick Russell.
Ladies:
Mo Sentance, Rose Palmer & Catherine Foster.
Veterans:
Mick Tee.
Once other Northants shooters respond, they
will be added to the above lists. We are also hoping to field a
Junior team, if possible. |

NORTHANTS FITASC CHAMPIONSHIPS |
|
NORTHANTS ABT CHAMPIONSHIPS |
|
On the hottest day of the year so far, Sporting
Targets hosted the Northants and Beds FITASC Championships over a 75
bird course of fire. Starting on the Embankment layout, the shooters
were gently introduced, which was to become a tricky course by the Quarry layout.
Kyle Storey set the pace in the morning with a
steady 60, followed into the clubhouse by David Thomas and James
Burton on 62. Right at the end, James Lacey stormed into the
clubhouse with a cracking 65 to take the title.
Our congratulations to the 12 Northants
shooters who took part and look forward to seeing you later in the
year. <Results> |

The day following the FITASC
Champs,
23rd May 2010, Northampton Shooting Ground hosted the Northants ABT
Championships, again in glorious sunshine. Although the numbers of
competitors was down on previous years, it was still tough at the
top. Tony Clayton and Mick Rolstone were first into the clubhouse,
both on 88 with Sue Bate (pictured) close behind on 87. Only
when the fourth squad came in, did we realise that Les Sperling,
with a crippling bad back, had taken the high gun on 90. Tony
Clayton still took the Veteran's trophy and Sue Bate the Ladies.
Well done to all.

A couple of people have asked why our ZZ Helice
Championship not been run for a couple of years. Well the committee
have contacted Rugby and District gun club and they have agreed to
host a ZZ Championship on Saturday, 18th September at their location
at J18 of the M1 (through the Ministry weighbridge, over the cattle
grid and a mile along the road.) Entries are taken from 09.30
through 10.30 and competition starts at 09.30. Just to keep up the
spirit of things, a couple of members of the committee are hoping to
be there, so don't worry about being on your own! |
